Extra-Curricular Activities
At Norden we believe that extra-curricular activities are very important and add value to a child’s education by developing a range of skills. Therefore, we offer a variety of extra-curricular activities during the lunch-hour and after school. The activities cover sports and the arts. At the moment we have a choir, football, rounders, netball, lacrosse, gymnastics, trampoline, swimming and cross-country running. Sporting activities take place after school and at lunchtime. The peripatetic music teachers visit the school weekly and offer a wide range of musical instruction.
We take part in local events such as the Norden carnival, Rochdale song and music festival and schools football, swimming and cross-country leagues, etc. Some activities take place at other schools. Visits are arranged to fit in with class topics and we enjoy visits from the Police, Fire Service, Puppet Theatres, poets, authors and Drama Groups.
In Key Stage 2, Year 6 visit the Robinwood Activity Centre in Cumbria.
Year 5 visit France.
Community Activities for all the Family
Norden Community Primary School is used extensively by all members of the community: parents, friends and relations, during the day, evenings, weekends and during the school holidays. There are over 60 different groups and classes running which are open to all ages from children of only a few months old to Senior Citizens. Some of the groups which take place during the school day have crèche facilities, so why not take the opportunity of joining a new group, knowing that your child is being looked after safely while you meet new friends.
We offer a variety of educational, recreational and leisure activities designed to fulfil and meet the needs of the community and can put on classes for those who want to gain new skills or take examinations and others which are purely for people to meet on a social basis.
We run a very successful Youth Club with a membership of 250 children who come together regularly on a Friday between 5.45 and 7.45pm during term time. The club is for all the children of the community so long as they are in school years 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8.
We also have a successful Luncheon Club for the local Senior Citizens. They meet on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during term time only. There is also bingo on Tuesday afternoons and a Craft Club and Woodwork Club on Wednesdays. Transport is available. The children help in the running of this popular facility.
If we cannot provide a group or class, we will be able to direct you to another establishment that can. We have a varied programme of activities and the school is open for members of the community from 7.30 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. daily.
Various events take place throughout the year and include Norden soccer school (largest in Europe), Norden carnival, Shawfield Playscheme and numerous Trampoline Schools that are run by the British Trampoline Federation.
