Eco News
The Eco Group
On the 29th we held our very first eco after school group. This group is open to children in years 1,2,3 and 4. We are having lots of fun learning about the best ways to develop our environment. Each week we take it in turns to work either inside or outside. We have fun while supporting the work of our school’s eco committee. We are currently thinking of very creative ways of re-using and recycling the waste card and paper from each class. We have also cleared the woodland of litter and pulled up weeds from the allotment.
Information
The eco committee have been busy ensuring that every class in the school is growing vegetables in the classes. We have decided that each class will begin the growing in class and then adopt their own patch of the allotment. So far we have planted strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, rhubarb, lettuce, beetroot, onions, potatoes, carrots, peas and beans. We are hoping for another good crop this year.
Also, we have started to monitor the classes that are making an effort to save energy in their classes by turning lights off when the room is not in use. We have designed and put up posters near light switches to remind everyone.
Have you tried growing your own fruit or vegetables at home? If not, why not give it a go? You don’t need to take up a patch of your garden – many things can be grown in pots.
Do you make an effort to save energy at home by turning off switches when things are not in use?

Eco Work at Norden Primary School
Our children are encouraged to be aware of their environment and the importance of looking after it. We will post pictures and information about our eco-work on this page throughout the year.
