Literacy

Research for topic on World War II

Biographies/autobiographies of famous people such as Anne Frank’s diary to learn how the war affected different people.

Letters – features, e.g. evacuees, and newspaper reports.

Explore the use of propaganda during WW11, e.g. advertise the importance and need for rationing – create posters – persuasive writing.

Numeracy

Number patterns –
rounding numbers to nearest 10/100
Use this strategy to add/subtract multiples of 10/100 and adjust.
Multi step word problems – choose appropriate operations.
Knowledge if inverse relationship to check answers.
Long multiplication/division.
Develop multiplication skills – X4.X6, X7, X8, X9
Relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages.
Converting between measurements.

Science

Changing state- Three states of matter, links with the ‘Water Cycle’.

  • Musical Instruments
    Investigate a range of instruments, how they are played and create a sound. Design and make using appropriate materials. Evaluate finished product.
  • Biscuits
    Design for different users, evaluate shape, colour, texture.

Music

Complete work on ‘Carnival of the Animals – composing to create atmosphere, represent environment.
Use instruments made in DT to play a simple tune.
Composition using various symbols to represent pitch.

    How to give and receive compliments, strategies to overcome embarrassment. How to make others feel good about themselves.
  • Changes
    Change as a positive thing, how to respond to change.
    Study of Judaism and how Jewish people were treated during WW11 – Anne Frank/Holocaust and inside a Synagogue.
